Laboratory

Wayne HealthCare is very excited to announce the opening of the new Out Patient Laboratory Facility on Monday, November 8, 2010. This facility is located in the WH Medical Office Building at 824 Central Avenue. All out-patient laboratory work will be collected at this site.

"Our new facility houses both registration and laboratory areas allowing our patients a more streamlined service. We believe that they will enjoy the ease of access to this facility," states Jane Tester, Director of Laboratory Services.

There will no longer be a blood collection area within the new Wayne HealthCare building itself. All laboratory out-patient collections will be performed at the 824 Central location.  For those unfamiliar with the area, the Medical Office Building is located immediately to the North of the Emergency entrance to the hospital.

Hours of operation remain the same as the current location. They are as follows:

Monday through Friday: 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 pm
Saturday: 7:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Sunday: Closed
Holidays: Closed

We're looking forward to serving you at our new home - Monday, November 8, 2010. Welcome!

Within the Wayne HealthCare Laboratory Department are registered professionals with multiple bachelor‘s degrees and specializations. They provide high-complexity testing services for Microbiology, Chemistry, Immunochemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, and Blood Bank. Our Medical Technologists/Clinical Laboratory Scientists analyze hundreds of specimens per day, and although these dedicated individuals are rarely seen outside the walls of their department, their impact on quality patient care cannot be overstated. Each timely and accurate test result that they report is crucial to the care of our patients.

Surgical pathology and cytology services are provided by North Dayton Pathologists with Dr. Ronald Chiu, Pathologist, serving as the medical director for Wayne HealthCare.

Phlebotomists, individuals who are highly trained in the art of specimen collection and laboratory test requirements, regularly interact with our patients and are the public face of the Laboratory Department. These individuals follow stringent guidelines as they perform venipunctures to collect blood samples—ensuring that the specimens will be suitable to provide quality, reliable test results.

In addition to patient care, the phlebotomy staff of Wayne HealthCare also serves the public by providing drug screens and breath alcohol tests for many local companies, as well as specimen collections at various health and wellness events throughout the community.
